Newcastle are in the race for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Axel Witsel. He is who Juventus are also eyeing.
Witsel has a contract with Dortmund until the end of the season. And the Bundesliga team is unlikely to renew a new contract out. That making it possible to accept an offer to buy from this January
German publication Bild reports that the German giants are ready to release the Belgian midfielder. As they are planning a move for Borussia Manchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.
Witsel had previously been linked with Juventus. But German publication Bild has reported that Newcastle are also interested in joining the team this winter.
The Italian media reported that Newcastle are ready to offer Witsel a salary of 8.4 million pounds a year.
The report adds that Juventus, who are said to be keen on the Belgian international, would not even be prepared to meet Witsel’s current terms at Dortmund, meaning the 32-year-old would have to take a pay cut to move to Turin.
Witsel has remained coy on his Dortmund future but did say at the start of the season that his preference would be to remain at the German club.
Speaking in August, Witsel told Ruhr Nachrichten: ‘What the future will bring, I cannot say yet.
